Habeas Corpus For Monkeys

Last week a judge issued a writ of habeas corpus for two Chimpanzees. The Chimps, being kept at the State University of New York, Stony Brook, cannot be kept there any longer unless the university can satisfy the judge that their detention is justified.

Never before has a judge applied habeas corpus to a non-human. Where this will lead no one really knows. But the lack of sanity in the action is abundantly clear.

I am not suggesting that animals should be confined without good reason. Animals do not belong to us, they belong to the Lord. "The earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein" (Psalm 24:1). We may harness their strength for our use, we may even use them for food (Gen 9:3). But we are not to abuse them (Pr 12:10 & 27:3). So I do not object to the idea that the court might rule in this case.

But to invoke a writ of habeas corpus in this case, while refusing to do so in so many others, says something about the insanity of our society and of our judicial system. If chimps deserve a hearing in court, what of unborn children? To issue a writ of habeas corpus for animals, while allowing abortions to go ahead without a court hearing, is beyond illogical. It is diabolical.

The cause of this lack of sanity in the courts is not hard to see. So many people, even people who claim to be Christians, ignore the fundamental right of life when they vote. Next year we will have another election. Let us settle it in our minds right now, a follower of Christ cannot vote for a pro-murder candidate. To do so is simply to show that one is not really a disciple of Christ. If neither of the major parties nominates a candidate that upholds life, then vote for some minor party, or vote "none of the above" if you must. But never, never, never give your support to these murderous, illogical scoundrels who are ruining our country and shedding so much innocent blood.

Cowardly Liars At The BBC

Perhaps I should not single out the BBC, because the same cowardly deception is carried on by ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox and most newspapers.

I just finished reading an account of the ongoing trial of seven men who abused a group of boys (ages 11 to 15). In one respect the news story is factual, except that it refuses to call the abuse what it was. Several different circumlocutions are employed to avoid stating the fact that these men engaged in the homosexual rape of the boys.

Why is it that the news media in the Western world will not admit that homosexuals commit rape? They talk plainly, often too plainly, about so many other things. But when it comes to homosexuality, and especially to homosexual rape, they suddenly get shy and use euphemistic language to avoid stating the facts plainly. It seems that the cardinal rule of political correctness is that negative terms, like rape, must never be used of homosexuals (although they commit thousands every year). If at all possible, the terms used of homosexuals must have a positive spin. Call them "gay", since they are not. But never, never call them what they are.

Those who consider themselves "open-minded" and "liberal" must not be caught burning books. That would reveal how oppressive and dishonest they really are. They do not burn books; they ban words, which has the same effect, but is not as obvious to the unalert mind.

Be alert. Homosexuals rape children on a regular basis. The news people sometimes report it, but they always call it something else.

More Harm Than Boko Haram

Boko Haram, the Nigerian terrorist organization, is a terrible and disgusting group of people. I really do not have words adequate to express how disgusting, and, if I did, I would not want to print them here. But instead I will ask you to consider an interesting question concerning Boko Haram and someone you might know.

Who does more harm to the cause of Christ, Boko Haram or lukewarm Christians?

When people observe the activities of Boko Haram, do they say, "You see, Christianity is no good"? They may, perhaps criticize Islam because of Boko Haram, but no one gets Boko Haram mixed up with Christ. So there is little harm to the cause of Christ from their activities. In fact, when Boko Haram harms Christians, as they often seek to do, the courage with which many of the Christians endure the conflict sparks admiration.

When people observe the activities of lukewarm Christians, do they criticize Christ? You bet they do.

When lukewarm Christians compromise moral standards, people notice. Even if they would have done the same themselves, the worldly person is still critical of the (so-called) Christian who is lazy, immoral, or dishonest.

When lukewarm Christians refuse to speak up for the truth, or give a distorted version of the truth because they do not know the faith as they ought to, it is harmful to the cause. No one expects Boko Haram to know Christianity (it is questionable if they really know anything other than their own greed for violence). But people expect those who claim to be Christians to be able to give a reasonable account of their faith. When a lukewarm Christian fails to give a reasonable account of the faith, the worldly person jumps to the conclusion that the Christian faith is therefore unreasonable.

I really believe that lukewarm Christians are doing the cause of Christ more harm than Boko Haram.

No wonder Jesus said, "So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth" (Revelation 3:16, ESV).

A Civil Rights Case

Did you hear the news?

Pete Peterson of Mist County, Minnesota is suing Ahmed's Butcher Shop in St. Cloud. It seems that Mr. Peterson tried to order 100 pounds of pork sausage for a big wedding breakfast and Ahmed, citing his religious beliefs, refused to supply the sausage. Mr. Peterson says that he was very hurt and offended by the refusal. When asked why he did not just take his order to another merchant, Peterson replied, "My right to eat sausage is greater than his right to his religion. He needs to understand that if he wants to live in America he can believe whatever he wants, but he has to practice what I want. Like it or not."

Mist County is, of course, mythical. Garrison Keillor invented the county and its most famous town, Lake Wobegon, as the background for his humorous monologues. The case of Peterson versus Ahmed is also imaginary.

The twisted reasoning attributed to Mr. Peterson, however, is not so imaginary. Homosexuals, and the judges who unconstitutionally support them, reason just like that all the time. So does the dishonest news media. They talk so fast that, if one is not alert, the perverted nature of their reasoning may escape notice. But the plain fact is that any one of us has as much right to demand pork sausage of a Muslim as a homosexual has to demand a wedding cake of a Christian.

Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter! (Isaiah 5:20, ESV)
